Obedience training - Why train your dog?
Obedience Training is one of the best things you can ever do for your dog and yourself. Training opens up a line of communication between the two (or more) of you and is the foundation for teaching good manners, social and companionable behaviour around other dogs and people, and overcoming many behavioural problems. The training covers exercises which will enable you to get your pet to walk neatly without dragging or pulling you along, as well as lessons such as sit, stand and the all-important recall (come!). A well-trained dog is respectful of you, your family and friends and, in the case of a shy dog, often becomes more confident. Responsible dog ownership is essential in today's world and Obedience Training is the heart of responsible "dog-ship"
Obedience Training should be fun and rewarding for you and your dog. If you are wondering when is the right time to start training your dog, the answer is right now! It doesn't matter if you have a puppy from four months old or an elderly canine companion (and yes, you certainly can teach an old dog new tricks!). Obedience Training is interesting and meaningful and training can easily become your dog's favourite activity. After all, it means spending focused time with their absolutely favourite people and pack – you and your family. You learn something about dogs, their behaviours and what makes them tick and your dog spends time with you – it's a win-win situation.
At Manly, we focus on positive reinforcement and rewards while training, and we aim to train the handlers to get the best from their dogs, help you have fun with your dog and to make living with a dog fun, not hard work. Training enriches our relationships and makes living together more enjoyable. In fact, training ensures your dog is a joy to live with.
Our instructors have years of experience training dogs. We are all volunteers, and enjoy nothing more than helping you change an untrained, madcap dog into a well-mannered and fun-loving companion, again a win-win situation. And you may decide to progress from basic obedience to trialling your dog in the Obedience Ring and we will help you in any way we can to achieve your goals.
